The Unexpected Move
Emmy has been very serious about practicing her softball skills.
Her dad has been very serious about helping her.
Thus, the softball to the face...
She almost caught it.
It was very traumatic.
Her mom thought she needed to go to the ER.
Her dad said, "She'll be fine".
And eventually, she was.
Poor thing.
I don't think she'll ever let her dad live it down.
It's been a whirlwind of a few weeks!
We talked seriously about the possibility of moving to Oklahoma, not right away, but beginning to plan for it. But in the end, Kevin feels like we can't take the kids away from their grandparents. We love our house and decided we'd figure out a way to finish the basement as soon as possible. Poor Emmy's sharing a room with the family room.
And then, basically overnight, we went from thinking we'd stay in this house forever, to realizing it was time to move.
Long story short, Jax wanted to keep playing football for the Taylorsville league (playing for Granite last year was a disaster) and the coach told us he couldn't play for the team if we didn't live in Taylorsville's boundaries.
It was weird, but both Kev and I felt like maybe we should do some house hunting.
Who moves the family to a new city just so the son can play football???
Weird, right?
Even considering a move seemed irresponsible because we were just starting to get on our feet from the hard years with the tow yard.
But, we figured there was no harm in looking.
We spent hours on a Saturday looking online and driving around Taylorsville.
With zero luck.
On our way home we took a shortcut through a neighborhood we'd never seen.
As we rounded the bend there was a home with a "For Sale By Owner" sign in the yard.
We walked around the house, looking in the windows.
It was pretty out-dated but looked like it had potential.
We called the number on the sign and a woman named Patti gave us the details.
As soon as she mentioned the square footage, I knew it would be out of our price range.
And then she said the basement could be rented--that changed everything.
It took weeks to work out the details.
It was very complicated.
We almost gave up, it seemed impossible for it to work.
And then one day I was sitting in the car, parked in front of my parent's house and so clearly the words, "You need to pursue this" came into my mind.
So we did, and it was messy and complicated right up until we signed the papers, but we signed them!
We rented our little Beck house the day I told one of my friends we were moving. She had a sister who was looking for a place to rent.
Even though we are bursting at the seams, we love this little house. We love our neighbors and the ward and are so grateful to have had 9 years in the same house Papa Dave was raised in.
So many great memories with our babies.
I am more than sad to leave this kitchen my dad and I had worked so hard on.
But, when the Lord tells you to pursue something, you pursue it.
It's been interesting to watch Jackson be a part of this process.
He really, really wanted the move to work out.
He fasted and prayed and helped me clean up the yard in case things worked out and we needed to rent it. After we finished weeding and mowing I said to him, "Should we put up the For Rent sign?"
He replied, "That would show a lot of faith".
And that's what we did.
The kids will start at their new school in a few days.
We are moving in with my parents for a few weeks while we paint bedrooms in the "new" house.
It's going to take a lot of work, but we anticipate being there a very long time.
