Missionary Monday - Berwyn Heights Week 8
Hey!
So last Monday we had a family home evening where they were blessing their new house, they invited a bunch of other families over too so it was pretty cool. Only weird part was that they turned it into a priesthood ordinance, but it's the thought that counts?
Tuesday we had a dinner/fhe with a family that is kinda struggling. Things were OK when I was here last year but now it's definitely worse, they are semi active, half the kids are always doing hoodrat things with their friends, and the parents are on the outs with each other. The entire time we were there it was a mad house, kids fighting, mom trying to cook, neighbors kid over going off the walls, and cats coming in the window. One was theirs the others were stray... Holy cow it was wack. The mom deserves an award though, hurts my heart a little.
Wednesday we met with Josue! he's pretty much the same, still funny. Apparently he's hooked on sweet tea from McDonald's so we will be working on that with him... 🤦🏾♂️ 😂 In the afternoon we were out grinding and it was super hot. We were about to knock a door when a Hispanic lady whistled at us and motioned for us to come over. Her name is Yamilet and apparently she went to church in Honduras for 8 years but never got baptized but everyone in her family did. She asked where the church was and wanted to come. Spoiler alert, she did! So that was pretty sweet! We should be meeting with her this week.
Thursday we were on exchanges all day, I was with Elder Basso in langley park. Langley park is like the Spanish equivalent of Anacostia hahaha. So it was fun, saw a bunch of wack stuff but nothing super eventful happened.
Friday I had my final departing interview with president Johnson. That was one of the best hours of my mission. I went in with about 18 post mission life questions and he said he didn't have an agenda for the interview so we went through those until the time was up. We only got through about 10 of them but it was great, tons of great feedback. (shout out to Jackson on the questions) Then after my interview he had lunch scheduled and then Elder Skouson and Elder Peterson so he took us all out to lunch at 5 guys so that was a nice bonus too. President Johnson will be missed.
Saturday we tracted our little hearts out. There was a birthday party at the chapel that the family that went to church last week was going to so we went and it was pretty crazy, the Spanish people go hard on birthday parties. They had like 4 piñatas 😂 😂 Then we had dinner and some more finding.
Sunday Yamilet came with her son and daughter, our family didn't show though... 🤔 so that was a bummer. A missionary had his homecoming as well, he was serving in Panama. After church they had an activity where all the people in the ward who had served missions share things about different aspects of being a missionary and at the end the guy who just got back reported more on his actual missionary service so that was cool too. Then TONS of food after haha. Then we knocked the night out, talked to some cool people but no one down to clown.
Today we shopped and played some basketball. I think that's about it for us today though. I hope you all had a great week and I hope to hear from you!
