Learning from Elder Gong
Having the opportunity to be taught by an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ is a really big deal.
I told the girls, any time you have the opportunity to be in the same room with an apostle or the prophet you do whatever it takes to get there.
I herded my little chicks over to the church an hour and 40 minutes early so we could sit in the chapel where we would be able to see Elder Gong without squinting.
When we got there the doors were still locked.
When we entered the chapel there was only one other person in there so we had our pick of the seats.
We chose a center row, four rows back.
It was a wonderful meeting.
Elder Gong is so kind and so gracious.
And he's pretty funny.
He's really smart too.
Did you know he was a Rhodes Scholar?
He taught us that the Lord looks at us in our potential, not our weaknesses.
He reminded us that the Lord is our shepherd because he knows what it was like to be a lamb.
He taught about the gifts our Heavenly Father has for us...with joy being one of the biggest.
He taught that the greatest gift we can give our Heavenly Father is to do the things that bring us lasting joy.
Elder Gong took the time to shake hands and talk for a moment with all who wanted to meet him.
That's Nick above and Kara below.
Kevin and I were able to meet Elder Gong Saturday at our leadership training.
He taught us well.
I loved the way he explained repentance. It's simply doing whatever the next step is to become closer to our Father in Heaven. Repentance is an invitation to come closer to God and Jesus Christ.
Nothing better than a spiritual feast on Saturday AND Sunday.
