The Love of the Lord
Lilly and I got to have a sleepover with Papa Tom and Mama Jan Friday night.
We were there most of Friday and part of the day Saturday and we had so much fun with them.
Lilly made a bed on the floor near Grandpa.
She was so cute helping to take care of Papa Tom.
She even made a countdown to Christmas for him.
He set some new goals.
The sores in his mouth have healed and his taste buds are starting to improve (radiation really messes with your taste buds) so he set a goal to eat one thing by mouth every day. He started with a Go Go Squeeze :).
We saw some big improvements this past week.
My dad has been able to cut down on his pain medication considerably.
Friday morning he and I spent two hours paying bills and working on his finances. The bill he was most concerned about paying was his tithing and fast offerings. He was clear headed the entire time. A month ago the most he could handle was 45 minutes. Later that night we watched a Christmas movie and he stayed awake through the entire thing.
Saturday morning he and Lilly played games and Lilly gave him his breakfast.
Dad had a nice visit with Gracie yesterday.
He told her all about his Grandma Child. Gracie loved learning about her and told me later that was a far better way to spend her Sunday than napping all day.
Every Sunday Priesthood holders from Dad's ward come to his home to give him the sacrament.
A couple of weeks ago Dad was so sick my sister suggested he skip it, but he wouldn't do it. Renewing his baptism covenants with his Savior means everything to him.
Today, instead of men from the ward giving my Dad the sacrament my brother in law Scott and nephews Karter and Kamden (a brand new deacon) surprised him and came prepared to bless and serve him the sacrament. Despite all the hard days Dad and our family continues to be blessed with the love of the Lord.
