MIssionary Monday - Week 7 Olny
Hello!
So transfer calls came last Monday, Elder Castillo is going back to his ward in Glenmont, Elder wahlquist got excommunicated from Spanish and was sent to southern Maryland where it's all white people. He cried himself to sleep but I'm sure he's over it by now. And I received Elder Navarro from Perú.
Tuesday was mostly both of them packing with a little bit of finding here and there.
Wednesday was when transfers were, we all swapped companions and were off. Elder Navarro has been in Silver Spring for the last 6 months, and this is his second area. He is still learning English so that's been fun. We switch off every other day speaking all English and then all Spanish. That's been super helpful for the both of us. We ended up getting home pretty late because we had to get our car from the mission office so we pretty much went straight to tracting. We got let in 3 times in 1 hour it was like a record. Nothing special came from those though 😔. The first guy was from Iraq and was super Muslim, he was a nice guy but he wasn't picking up what we were putting down. I don't remember the second person, and then the third person was an old Hispanic guy that was super catholic. He was missing a few screws but at least it was entertaining. He went on and on about "La Intercesora" (The Virgin Mary). Good times.
Thursday it snowed a bunch which was cool until that turned into rain and it just rained the second half of the day. For lunch we picked up some Peruvian food from hermana Pacheco, she was playing Christmas songs from the carpenters, that was real nice. The rest of the day was mostly tracting.
Friday we had a brunch with the Agee family, turns out Elder Navarro's parents live in the same stake in Perú as hermana Agee's parents. Then had district meeting, then studies and finding before dinner. Then dinner with hermana Perez, she was sick and I think she gave me a little somethin somethin cause I feel it coming on 🤧. Then we tracted a bunch more and found 4 new Investigators, no big deal.
Saturday was straight finding but it was good. We went to Gaithersburg and it took 1.5 hours to knock one section of the complex (12 doors) because every single door answered and talked with us for a while and every single one was Hispanic, that was pretty awesome. Then at the end of the night we went to the ward Día de acción de gracias (Thanksgiving) party. That was pretty fun too.
Sunday we had ward council before church which is super fun (not). Just because of how early it is. Then church and everything. We ate with a Peruvian family for lunch that was good. All the Peruvians in the ward want Elder Navarro to be their son since all they ever get is white kids for missionaries 😂 They love him. Then we did some finding for a while. To end the night on a high note we stopped by to follow up with a couple that Elder Wahlquist and I had taught and man that was a mistake 😂 The husband was super prideful and that was a huge obstacle in teaching him but his wife was so into it and humble, but he would just cut us and her off to throw some garbage into what we were saying. We would make some progress and then he would change the subject and it was back to square one 😂. At the end of the lesson he asked if I wanted some coffee, he knew we couldn't but he thought he was real funny, and it kinda was 😂
Today we went shopping and got Elder Navarro a haircut. Watching him and the Vietnamese barber try and communicate with their thick accents was pretty funny 😂
