Missionary Monday - Anacostia Week 3
Buenas.
So last Monday after dinner we were out looking for a referral and he wasn't home. While we were walking back to the car this guy walks out of his house with some alcohol and a cigarette and we make eye contact with him and he yells to us and we are like, ooooh great. We walk over and he's like "So what do you have for me? I was inside and I felt like I needed to come out, I walk out and bam, God sends me you two." We talked to him for a little bit and he turned out not to be drunk and was going through some stuff with his family and wanted to meet. We set up an appointment for Wednesday but we had to reschedule for this coming week. So keep your fingers crossed. When he walked back inside his wife got mad at him for talking to us cause we were white 😂 No respect.
Tuesday was pretty boring. We went to district meetings in Southern Maryland and had to go to the southernmost part after to pick up a bike and weights from an apartment for another Elder, the bike and half the weights were his, the other half of the weights were for us 💪🏾 So we dropped those off then we had to drive to the stake center and get a backpack that the northernmost elders had left in their last apartment and then take it to them and then drive all the way back, by the time we were home the day was over. It was long. The highlight of all the driving though was when we stopped at a gas station called "Wawa" It's like maverick but better. They had a sub sandwich shop on the inside that was cheap and better than subway, you can make any custom sandwich for $5.
Wednesday we were on exchanges, I stayed here with Elder Brown. He's in his first transfer of waiting on his visa to go to the Philippines. He's an interesting guy, it'll be interesting to see how the Philippines treat him. we spent the whole day finding. Had the weirdest contact so far. We talked to this one guy who had given up on Christianity and we opened his eyes a little bit, he referred us to a guy that lived a few blocks from him, he said that the guy would be able to teach us some stuff. I figured why not cause we have all the answers. So we turn the corner to the street the house is on and there's a black guy with dreads taking groceries in and he stops and yells to us when we were 50 feet away and says "What do y'all know about the tribes of Israel?" Uh what. 😂 We talked for a little and he was busy so he said to come back another time but it was super random.
Thursday we met with Lenin and put him on date for August 25th so that was pretty cool. Other than that it was a boring day...
Friday we had a bunch of lessons planned, we confirmed with the people before hand and they all fell through *fart*. Later we had a Baptismal interview for an investigator in Bayside. I had the privilege of doing the interview, it was a 16 year old kid and he was pretty cool. He had been curious about religions for the last few years but all it took was him being invited to mutual and now he's all in. He is super smart and loves the doctrine. Then we drove to Germantown for a baptism for a guy Elder Attanasio taught for 6 months, that was cool.
Saturday we had lessons in the morning, but people dipped on us:( So it was some finding. Then had lunch and studies. Then we got on the Metro to go to Gaithersburg because Tomas was baptizing his son! It was a long metro ride with a lot of funky people, it's been like 8 months since I've been on the metro and I don't really miss it 😂 We got picked up by Elder Peterson and Elder Humphrey and went to the baptism. President and Sister Johnson and Elder Castillo came, it was nice to see him again. It was great to see Tomas too, I never would have guessed this is where we would be with him 4 months ago knocking on his door. Crazy. It was awesome to see all of the Gaithersburg members again. I didn't realize how much I missed them. Anyways then we metroed back home, in between switching lines I got hit on #StillGotIt Don't worry though I kept it professional, she wasn't interested after I explained who I was. Her loss. By the time we got home the day was over so that was a bummer but it was a priceless experience.
Sunday was pretty usual. Elder Attanasio and I gave the opening and closing prayers in sacrament. 3rd hour was combined and guess what the topic was? Ministering. I'm not against it but the next week that it isn't the focus of the 3rd hour will be the first, across all 3 wards I've been in since conference. It has been beat to death. But the guy who taught did a super solid job so that was good. Later we ate with the Gamerens, we had burritos, those were good but white people burritos just aren't the same. After dinner instead of teaching a lesson we helped them find on Facebook and they both reached out to a nonmember friend with short videos from the church so that was cool. After dinner we were trying to drop off a Bible to a dude who requested one but he wasn't home. His brother answered and turned out to be super interested so we will be going back Wednesday this week 🤞🏾
That's all I got, today will be the usual. Hope everyone had a great week and I look forward to hearing from you!
