Missionary Monday - Anacostia Week 2
Gooood morning!
So this week was super busy with everything but missionary work... But I'll still try and make this entertaining 😉
So Monday night tracting we met one cool non denominational guy, he woulda had some potential if he didn't think he knew everything. We were explaining the Book of Mormon and how Christ told his disciples he had other sheep and then he was like "Woah hold up, he's not talking about people in the Americas, he's talking about us today, we are his other sheep" We were like, yeeeeeah no. Then read when Christ says that they are his other sheep in the Book of Mormon and he was confounded. It was a good conversation but he wasn't super open.
Tuesday we had to go to 2 district meetings and they were good. The second one a member came who is super involved with missionary work and did a role play on working with members that was super good. We had two lessons fall through that we had confirmed in the morning?? Hate that. Then after dinner we talked with Lenin, a 15 year old investigator. He's pretty cool, and his entire extended family is Mormon but not his family. He has some potential.
Wednesday we had MLC all day. That was a long 7 hours of everyone trying to one up each other. Overall it was good but ya know. When we got home we had like an hour so we had a lesson with Eugene, that guy is nuts. I'm pretty sure he's a member but he doesn't remember anything he gets taught, and he's got a nickname for everyone. Elder Attanasio is half-pint, and I'm the devil. Good times.
Thursday we had to drive to the mission office to get supplies for the zone, that took forever. It's an hour and a half just to get there. We came back and stopped at a hot dog stand in DC that a member owns for lunch and when we got there she asked for a blessing, we offered to do it behind the cart but she insisted on the park. So yeah.... that happened. After she gave us free sausages and a drink, that was a spicy sausage 🔥. We picked up Brother Mason for a lesson afterward and we had to wait for the guy with him for a while and so I started telling him jokes and he would laugh before the punchline, it was hilarious. After dinner we had a Bible request for a lady, she was upset that her free Bible didn't have a bigger font, we introduced the Book of Mormon and she didn't see the need for it. We read 2nd Nephi 29 and she was like, "Well alright..." So she accepted a Book of Mormon too, we'll see where that goes.
Friday we had interviews with president, except as zone leader you are there all day. So from 10am-9pm we were in the same room with missionaries coming in and out to be interviewed. But it was fun, we got to know pretty much everyone. At the end he interviewed us and then was like "Everything good with you?" me:"Yeah" him:"Alright sweet, let's go eat" 😂 So we went to Red Lobster 🤮 It was a 35 minute wait but president was down to wait. I got a steak 🤷🏿♂️ Dessert was a brownie. President got a call about every 5 minutes throughout dinner so he was stepping out every five seconds to talk to missionaries freaking out about stuff. We ended up getting home at 11:30😂 Good times.
Saturday morning we played basketball with the youth and some of the elders quorum. I couldn't be more thrilled that the ward sport here isn't soccer 😂 We played 4 on 4 and I pretty much dominated, the second councilor mentioned it in sacrament 😂 😂 But the most important part is that Lenin came and loved it. So that was good. We pretty much tracted and looked for less active people the rest of the day, it rained super hard all day so that stunk, and it's gonna rain pretty much all week, can't wait...
Sunday we had stake coordination, that was alright, they didn't really include us in anything so we didn't really need to be there. But the stake seems pretty fired up for member missionary work so that's good. We got to church late because of it... But church was good, Lenin came to that too and seems to be building relationships with the youth. After church we ate with the Gamerens again and that was super good, she made spaghetti with bacon pieces in it, I never would have thought of that but it was SUPER good 😂 They had their in-laws there and they are from Alabama, the mom is a convert and has a pretty cool story, she ended up getting introduced to the church on accident by a less active member who stayed less active. But anyways, that was good. Then we tracted and met a cool non Christian guy. We said who we were and he said "Nope!" But we kept talking and pretty much he was raised/forced Christian and then realized there were religions older than Christianity so he dipped on that, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't subscribe to any religion so I don't know what his plan is not being in any boat at all. We talked about how the Book of Mormon is another witness that Jesus is the Christ and it caught his attention a little bit but he wouldn't take a copy, he only took a pamphlet. He said he'd call but we'll see.
Anyways, I hope you all had a great week and I can't wait to hear from you!
