Missionary Monday - Week 19 Moville

What's up??

This week was pretty great, so this might be a long email.

Monday night we had a ward family night with a bunch of games and stuff, it was all geared at us (The missionaries though) We played human Mario kart with the balloons tied to our ankles but it was only the missionaries with balloons and then the entire ward trying to pop them, Elder Beck dominated that. Then they had a tug of war, that was alright. Then they used the rope for a jump roping contest. First some members, then a sister missionary who went pretty long, then everyone chose Elder Beck. And I guess you could say I gained some major respect at the rope that night. I smashed the record.

Tuesday my district meeting was canceled cause no one was going to be there so I went to another district meeting 😂 Later that night we had a lesson with Teresa, we taught the last lesson and got things squared away for her baptism. And she gave us her coffee 😂

Wednesday we Met with Teresa again to read the BoM with her and get the details for her baptismal interview set, that went well. That night we had her interview, but also 2 interviews for the sisters investigators at the same time so we split with the zone leaders and got them all done. The sisters investigators are pretty dope, it's a father and son. And they said Teresa did awesome in her interview so that made me happy.

Thursday we had a "passoff lesson" with English elders, they found someone they thought was pretty solid for us. We went and they never showed up but the people let us in. Turns out that they were members but left cause "We don't focus on the Bible enough" It was a husband and wife and the husband's main problem was that the book of Mormon has differences in Doctrine than the bible. I asked him like what and he couldn't tell me... Then the wife's problem was if the Book of Mormon was true why don't all churches use it? It was a pretty frustrating lesson but we are gonna go back prepared to bring them back to the fold.

Friday morning Teresa texts us and says "I'm not going to get baptized tomorrow, I want to read the whole Book of Mormon first" And we were like mmmm, yeah right you haven't read the whole Bible and you love that thing. (didn't say that to her though) We asked if we could come over and she said yeah so we did. She pretty much had the doubt of "What If they don't really have the authority" But we connected the dots for her cause she knows the BoM is true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet but she kept telling us "I'll call you tomorrow at ten and let you know" And we were like "Mmmm, we can figure this out right now" And she was like "Mmmm, I'll call you tomorrow" So after that back and forth for like 10 minutes we gave in and said fine. So we left and started a fast. Then went to lunch with Hna Nieto and explained the whole deal and she was cool about it and boxed up our lunch and asked for Teresa's number and said she was gonna give her a call 😂 we were worried about that since the week before we saw her in action. Friday night the young women had a talent show fundraiser thing and they wanted the missionaries to be in it. We decided we would do "Te Bautizo" (a missionary remix to despacito) And it was pretty dope, everyone went nuts 😂

Saturday morning we anxiously waited by the phone and then at 10:03 she calls and is all giggly and says she's getting baptized, so that was awesome. Had set up with a lady we tracted to come back. She straight up said that she knew she wouldn't be interested but was willing to hear us out since she's a good person. We decided to switch it up and take it from a different angle. She let's us in and she's like "OK so I'm in my own religion with CONVICTION and I've talked to girl missionaries before and I don't believe in your bible" And we were like alright, well we have news for you... Then we told her that an ancient record was found 200 years ago and that it had a story. Then we backed up and started from the beginning of time in Jerusalem and taught about Lehi leaving Jerusalem and sailing with his record to America and everything that went down there and how there were Prophets teaching the same things in America and writing down their teachings and how today we can read their record and it's the Book of Mormon. She was like "Hm! I never knew that..." But then she realized she was letting her pride down so she says "Well I know that the Bible is the book of books so, how do you explain that!" We asked if she knew how the Bible was made and she says "Well, uhh, I think, well no. I don't." So we explained that and it was all making sense to her and she's super interested now. And she works with youth in schools and stuff and was curious about what our church has to say about raising youth. She has no idea 😂 so we are going to take her a "For the strength of youth" "Family proclamation to the world" and some conference talks to blow her mind. Apparently her church has no focus on the youth.
Then we went to fill up the font and have studies and stuff at the chapel. The water ended up being super cold and there was nothing we could do. But she came and brought a whoooole lotta family and they were all so happy for her an it was just awesome.

Sunday morning we had a lesson set up at the visitors center with Tomas. We had Jose Cruz drive us and then Hna Nieto drove the sisters who would be doing the "tour" He wanted to watch the restoration and since it was a Sunday no one was really there so all 7 of us watched it in the giant theater that seats over a thousand 😂 😂 It was awesome though. That movie is the bomb and he was getting smacked around by the Spirit the whole time. Afterwards the sisters were asking him various questions and testifying and we all were pitching in, then when the time was appropriate we invited him to be baptized on the 19th of May and he said yes and asked what he needed to do to be ready so we told him and then he ended up coming to church right after as well. He's the bomb. After church we ate with the Monroys and then had a lesson that the sisters scheduled for us with a referral. We show up and he was waiting outside for us (That's a first) And we teach him the restoration and it went awesome and we invited him to be baptized on the 19th of May and he said yes and asked what he needed to do and we told him and he's down with it all. And then in call ins I think the sisters have another 2 people on date for the 19th so it's looking like it's going to be a pool party.

So anyways, it was the week. Hope you're all doing good! Can't wait to hear from everyone!
