The Door Project

Looking pretty good in his new Spidy shirt and fancy hair do.

Doesn't everyone have corn dogs for breakfast?

Remember that one day last February when Dakota (who'd only had his license a month) got hit by a mail truck?  Well, we finally got around to getting it fixed (by we I mean not me).  Dakota wasn't the one at fault so the USPS paid for the damages.

This little car is a bit of a "beater" car.  When we bought it it had lots of dings, and it's been ran into a couple of other times besides the mail truck.  But we LOVE it.  It has really low miles, it's a natural gas car so it's cheap to fill, and it's paid for :).  We had planned to take it in to one of the shops who gave us a bid to fix it.  They said it would be over 8 hours of labor and over 6 hours for the paint job.  The door itself would cost $300.  The paint was much less than that and the labor was over $800.  Kev is a master at youtubing how to fix stuff and then fixing it himself.  I told him several months ago if he could replace the door for cheaper he could have what money was left from the insurance payout.  He's got several projects in the works so the extra money was motivation to do it himself.

Kev and Esty went to a couple of salvage yards and the few silver doors they found were stripped and in pretty bad shape.  And then they found a goldish door, in great shape, and the price was right....a whopping $50 bucks!!

Estabon did all the labor himself with Kevin handing him tools and his support.
The automatic window and door lock worked and everything!

The door shopping and door replacing took about 3 hours total.

Is it more of a beater car than when we bought it?  Yes.
Have we turned it right into a redneck car?  Definitely.
Has this little door project brought Esty and his Dad closer?  Absolutely.
Is the husband giddy about having more project money?  You know he is.
