Our Neighbors Are From Brazil

Meet our neighbors Sergio and Eli Anna...

They are both from Brazil!
Sergio is from Rio de Janeiro and Eli Anna is from Belem.

We had them over for Sunday dinner and family night so they could teach us about life in Brazil.  It was fun to learn about the differences and similarities between Brazil and America.

A few fun facts are...
-Brazil has more holidays than the US.
-There's only one area of Brazil that gets snow.
-There isn't much grass in Brazil.  Most people lay cement in their yards so there's no maintenance.
-The kids in Brazil are similar to those in the US, they all have cell phones and like to play video games.
And he gave us a little advice--Do not go to Brazil during the World Cup, it will be crazy!

A few fun facts about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Brazil...
-There are 1.1 million members
-Brazil has the 3rd largest population of members of the church with Mexico having the second and the US the largest.
-There are 27 missions in Brazil
-The missionaries don't have to do much door knocking to find people to teach because the people are so friendly and willing to talk with and be taught by the missionaries.  In fact, before Sergio came to live in America he met some missionaries on the street in Rio and invited them to come to his home.  Speaking of Rio, Sergio said it's absolutely beautiful but summers there are brutal.  He loves our utah summers. I guess compared to Brazil, Utah summers are paradise :).
