SOFT
There is an organization called SOFT. It provides support for families with Trisomy 13 and 18 children as well as children who have other related chromosomal disorders. Up to this point I haven't done anything with the group but today I helped with the tree they decorated for the festival of trees.
I really enjoyed getting to know other Trisomy families and it was good to be part of such a great cause.
It was so fun to see the trees come to life! The creativity of some of these people is something else! I had zero creativity to bring to the table but I do know how to tie bows (thanks to my career as a floral designer at the Flower Patch 25 years ago)...
I even held a mini bow making class for a few of the ladies :). Most of the Mamas I met today had Trisomy 18 babies and they lived for as long as 2 months to several years. As they told me their stories it was clear how much these babies blessed their lives. Many doctors encourage mothers to terminate their Trisomy 13 and 18 babies, which is incredibly sad to me. I talked to a couple of the moms about starting a fund to help families pay for the burial expenses when they lose their babies and they really liked the idea, so we'll see where that goes.
If you go to the Festival of Trees the SOFT tree is in space D1. Check it out here!
The girls played a little Cannon Noel tonight for a Family Home Evening with some of the more mature folks who live near us. Love all this great holiday music that comes with the season!
