What's In a Name?

It was Kloe's turn to do the lesson for family night this past week and she chose a story out of the Friend about honoring your family name. It was a great lesson and we talked about the importance of honoring Christ's name and the Beck Family name in the way that we live. Kloe loves to have a game or activity along with her lessons so we looked up the meanings of each of our first names and then everyone took turns picking one out of a bowl and guessing which of our names it belonged to. It was a fun activity and everyone got a kick out of the different meanings...

Kevin....Handsome child, Gentle, Lovable

Becky..............Captivating

Jackson...........God is gracious

Emmy.............Hard working

Dakota............Friend, Aly

Kloe.................Blooming

Gracie.............Blessing, Joy

Along these same lines, several years ago for one of our family nights we created a mission statement for our family. I copied it onto bright orange paper and posted it on the fridge. A year ago I finally had it mounted on a big 3X5 foot board and it hangs in our entry way (sorry the pic is a little blurry but you get the idea). It's the first thing we see when we walk in the door and the last thing we see when we leave--it's a great reminder for our family of who we are and what we stand for.
