Missionary Monday - Anacostia Week 8

What's poppin?

So last Tuesday we had district meetings and stuff like usual. That night we were tracting in seat pleasant around 8:30, half of the houses had all their lights out so we would only knock on the ones with lights. No one was answering until a pretty cool Jehovah's witness guy, he was super open but it was pretty late so he gave us his business card and said to call him Saturday. His house was the last one on that side of the street so we start crossing the street and were talking about how we would go about teaching that guy, we get to the curb of the other side of the street and are about to go to the house in front of us, Elder Attanasio was looking off to the side and I saw 2 BIG pit bulls staring at us 15 feet away, no leash. I say "Uh I think there are two dogs right here.." He says "What?" And looks and right then the front dog starts barking his head off and charges us. (Elder Attanasio was 2 steps in front me) I realized at that moment that he was going to die and Elder Beck was next. The dog gets to Elder Attanasio and he lifts his leg and curb stomps the thing in the in the face!  It took off for the house whimpering with the other dog and we walked away like nothing happened. We both saw our lives flash before our eyes that night.😂

Wednesday was a pretty slow day, we had a Spanish Skype call, then a ZL call, then a DL ZL call, that took the whole morning. Then we had to take a Bible to a woman who requested one. She was happy to get her Bible but wasn't having us back, she wanted no part of the church 😂 Then we had to go to the mission office for supplies. Had a lesson with Eugene after that, it's been a few weeks since we've been able to have a lesson with him, I missed him.  He told Elder Attanasio he would break his legs if they kept him at church for 5 hours again 😂 😂 Then we had to exchange with the Capitol Hill Elders, I went to their area with Elder Asay. They probably have the nicest apartment in the mission, I was pretty jealous. The main room has a wall of just windows and it's got a decent view of the Capitol building. There's a lounge on the roof, and a huge man cave in the basement.

Thursday we had a lesson scheduled with a homeless lady but she didn't show up so we tracted and street contacted, I talked to a Spanish guy and he said he talked to a skinny white kid in Langley park about the church (That would be Elder West 😂 😂) He wanted to get in contact with them again so that was cool. Had lunch at Johnny Rockets with a member, that was pretty good. Then we pretty much had finding the rest of the day and exchanged back.

Friday was supposed to be interviews all day but the night before the area authority called president and told him it was a waste for the zone leaders to be at interviews all day so he told us not to come. It's true it is a waste of a day but knowing that we didn't plan any lessons or anything for that day. President told us the morning of so we ended up finding pretty much all day.

Saturday we had basketball in the morning and the guy from our apartment complex came and brought some of his friends, that was awesome. They loved it too so that was good. I've never played so well, I gained some respek. After that we did a bunch of finding and found a few new investigators. One of them is named Ray and we are meeting with him tonight, he's 76 but super down to learn from us, usually older people think they know everything there is to know so that was nice.

Sunday was a mess. Church was good, Margaret came. Elder Attanasio and Elder Kartchner found her like 2 months ago and she finally showed up and loved it. We had the relief society president go talk to her about getting her daughter to come so she could be in young women's and stuff and that helped a lot cause she came without her daughter but next week she's going to bring her. After church we went to sister Scippios to help her with "Something" she wouldn't tell us what. We got there and find out she needed us to move a giant box TV down 2 flights of stairs, that sucked. But she gave us a ton of food so that worked out. She tried to give me a 2,500 suit, I was flattered but it was brown and orange and I don't know who would pay that much for that thing. It was Italian apparently. She talked to us for a little bit after since we've never really talked to her before and she's probably the funniest black lady I've ever met. My favorite thing she said was "Anacostia is a special kind of black that you cant find anywhere else" That's spot on 😂 😂 Then we were supposed to have a lesson and dinner with Marty, we brought brother Harrison and when we got there she had just started cooking, then after a while her ex husband came home with TJ from the hospital, 20 minutes later TJ had a seizure so they called the fire department for the EMTs, they came and the ex husband was losing his marbles about it all, that was super awkward. We told her we didn't have to stay and she could go to the hospital but she send her ex and insisted on staying for dinner. She cooked steaks and they were pretty dang good. They were probably the thickest steaks I've ever had. She gave us 3 uncooked to take home too. By this time she was exhausted and wasn't down for a lesson so we had to reschedule that for Tuesday. Shes pretty pumped to get baptized on Saturday. However we learned that night the the ex lives there with them so that's gonna be a rough conversation on Tuesday. She hates the dude though so I don't think she will have a huge problem kicking him out. But we will see.

I hope you all had a great week and I look forward to hearing from you all!
