Pizza and More News

Best part of the day...

Making pizza with Janie and Gracie. I love how Gracie's got her knee on the counter for greater leverage. The other best part--my big boy thanking me with a hug HE initiated for me helping him with some school stuff today (he's not a big hugger--I'd try and hug and kiss him goodbye when I'd drop him off to Kindergarten and he'd get out of the car as fast as he could to avoid it. One time, after slithering away from my grasp, he jumped out of the car, slammed the door and threw his head back and laughed and laughed as he ran to get in line with the other kindergarteners. Such a stinker.)

Worst part of the day...more disheartening news. We met with my midwife and she reviewed some of the notes from our ultrasound. She told us a big part of the baby's brain is missing. We were told there were problems with his brain but not in those words. It breaks my heart. I feel completely helpless. My file is being sent to a maternal fetal medicine doctor at the University of Utah who also delivers babies. (The specialist I saw last week only diagnoses problems but doesn't do deliveries.) She'll review the file and then either take me as a patient or refer me to another specialist. The good news about working with the doctors at the University of Utah is I'll deliver there, which means the baby will be treated at Primary Children's Hospital if there is a chance he'll be able to live.

Today I am also thankful for my husband. His main concern through all of this has been how I'm doing and making sure I'm alright. He has a better perspective on life than I do. He always knows just what to say and is a great listener. He has a great sense of humor and keeps me laughing. He's my best friend and I'm grateful for our friendship and our marriage.
